Synopsis: Spider-Girl finds out who is behind the new Sisterhood of Mutants.
Comments: Gene is nuzzling Simone but of course becomes enraged when Wes has his hands on May. I guess Gene doesn't question how May is able to stop his punch.
Marty's last name is revealed to be Levitz. The only major Levitz I know of in the comics field is Paul Levitz, comic book writer and former president of DC Comics. The first name Marty could come from Martin Pasko, another writer at DC Comics. Apparently, both played poker with Tom DeFalco, among others, years ago.
Sara's father isn't around. Perhaps Sara's mother kicked him out over his mutant-phobic ways. "Uncle Charlie" I guess is used for mutants who are too conciliatory towards humans, a reference to policy of Charles Xavier who wanted humans and mutants to live side by side peacefully.
Elan taunting and killing her guard in her escape reminds me of Mystique in X-Men: The Last Stand. Those are the only female examples I can think of.
Eve Manning's doctorate being phony reminds me of former KKK leader and Republican politician David Duke who called himself "doctor", after being awarded a degree from a diploma mill in the Ukraine.
May calls the Sisterhood the "zoo crew", which is probably a reference to the DC Comic Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew. I'm sure the creator of Peter Porker enjoyed it. Magneta's Sisterhood of Mutants from the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants which was founded by Magneto that first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #4. Since then, other Brotherhood groups have used the word "evil" ironically or dropped it altogether. There was a Sisterhood of Mutants founded in the main 616 universe in Uncanny X-Men #499, which was published almost concurrently with this comic.
Elan saying "...final revenge of the Green Goblin" may be a reference to the miniseries, Spider-Man: Revenge of the Green Goblin. It was drawn by Ron Frenz and influenced this storyline. This issue also has the first appearance of Rene DeSantos, Simone DeSantos's father.
