Amazing Spider-Girl #24

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciller: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: May comes face to face with a vengeful clone while trying to stop Sara Hingle from destroying the city.

Comments: It's a stretch the format of the cover and the white background reminds me of Avengers #26

So for clarity's sake, I'm going to use the name April for May's clone, a name she'll adopt later. I'll call her Mayhem when she's in costume like I usually do for May/Spider-Girl. I like how May brushes off April for now because she has more pressing matters. It's not explained yet how April has the exact same clothing as May. People who have read ahead know it's because she's a symbiote who can shape shift.

The shoe store, Fingeroth's previously appeared in Spider-Girl #34 and is a reference to Marvel writer and editor Danny Fingeroth.

The goblin in the mirror is probably an indication how the chemical explosion affected Peter more than he thinks.

Fury's attack and abduction of Peter Parker is taken from Amazing Spider-Man #39. Frenz is more economical and gets it in two pages as opposed to Romita's original four.

Poor Wes. At least it gives May the final push to break up with Gene for good.

The Magneta storyline is sort of dropped here. She never reappears or gets any kind of comeuppance for the trouble she caused.

Comments

  1. The stuff with Magneta is one of the most loose ended and frankly undercooked elements published in the MC2 for me. Early on she was a sort of amoral not-villain who was looking to recruit super powered heroes to her team, then when we finally see her again she's running with Hope in the Revengers and has gone full villain.
