Spider-Girl #100

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciller: Ron Frenz, Pat Olliffe

Synopsis: Will Spider-Girl survive the Scriers and Hobgoblin?

Comments: Once again, Normie doesn't like it when people say his real name. Well, pick a codename, dude!

Spider-Man swinging away is taken from Amazing Spider-Man #50.

That's pretty cool that not only can a symbiote heal people, it can also remove tattoos. Although someone as rich as Normie should have tried to remove or alter those tattoos himself.

Yes, Peter. The symbiote's preferred pronouns are she/her.

These shots of the Hobgoblin are taken from Amazing Spider-Man #239 and #244, respectively.

Spider-Girl pulling the Hobgoblin towards her with a web and the "feeling loose and slamming heat" line is reminiscent of her first appearance in What If #105.

I guess Black Tarantula cuts the Gordian Knot, but winning the duel Darkseid style.

Mary Jane is tempting fate by wishing for Ben not to have any powers.

Mary Jane asks May to stop being Spider-Girl. May will give it up over the time skip between the end of this series and the beginning of the Amazing Spider-Girl series.

Normie and Brenda finally get married.

The issue ends on a full page spread which is how previous issues that we thought to be the last ended. However, it was known to fans that Spider-Girl's adventures would continue since an ad for Amazing Spider-Girl was in the same issue.

At the back of the issue are some Spider-Girl villain profiles and this is the part where I pick on the poor intern who created these, because there are some errors

First up, Aftershock's real name is given as "Samantha Dillon." Her real name was given as "Allison" in Spider-Girl #81. Her last name is a matter of conjecture since Max said he was never married to Allison's mother, Marilyn.

Staci's name is spelled incorrectly as "Stacy", Staci herself yelled her name. She also technically appeared in Spider-Girl #45

Sabreclaw's first appearance was actually J2 #8. Spyral's current status is given as "at large", but he was captured in Spider-Girl #11. However, I acknowledge a lot could have happened since then.

Man-Wolf's status is given as "incarcerated", even though Ashley turned him back into a human in Spider-Girl #70.

  1. You know, I think I'd always assumed Alison's Surname was Dillion. Not sure if it was because it was printed somewhere like that or my own personal bias. Spyral is definitely on the loose and visiting the wrong dimensions and times while blaming everyone else for his incompetence. Great job with catching all the 'swipes' this issue. I always struggle to place such things even when I recognise them.
