Spider-Girl #91

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciller: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: The mystery of The Spider Shoppe is revealed.

Comments: The last issue and this issue are fairly light after the very serious issue #89.

I've tried to document all of Staci's appearances in previous posts.

Credit to frogoat for pointing out where La Fantome came from.

A little foreshadowing for the return of the Hobgoblin who will return in Spider-Girl #97.

The designer Daniel is talking to is based on costume designer Edith Head who had a character based on her in The Incredibles, Edna Mode. Ron's drawing seems more Edna than Edith.

Daniel makes a reference to Roderick being his twin brother. Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz have admitted that Roger Stern intended Daniel and Roderick to just be brothers who resembled each other, but Tom and Ron simplified it to twin brothers. The idea was used in the third season of Fargo where Ewan McGregor played brothers of different ages who could pass for each other.

I like Felicity's smirk because she understands how Mary Jane is keeping May's identity secret.

Staci intends to let her criminal career benefit her in the entertainment industry, just like Misery in the last issue.

Mary Jane being the secret owner of The Spider Shoppe always seemed like a weird reveal to me, but OK. I guess Staci being a Smythe explains her technological aptitude
