Captain America Corps #1

Writer: Roger Stern
Penciller: Phil Briones

Synopsis: The Contemplator recruits those who have worn or emulated the mantle of Captain America from across time and space.

Comments: The colorist is Matt Milla, who did a great job recoloring the Tales of Asgard trade paperback.

Before his fall from grace, Charles Lindbergh was one the closest things to a real Captain America. Captain America's first uniform is shown here. He would get a new shield and protection for his neck after the first mask was too easy to knock off. That was shown in Captain America #255, which was also written by Roger Stern.

Vox Populi ("voice of the people") was actually an Australian current affairs show from 1986-1995. The phrase has been used many times in popular culture.

I was surprised to find out that Commander A (Kiyoshi Morales) was created specifically for this mini-series. I don't know if he's related to Miles Morales who first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4, which has the same publication date as this comic (August 2011).

U.S. Agent refers to the Contemplator as "Buddha", which is a reference to the Contemplator's first appearance in Captain America's Bicentennial Battles in which he was called "Mister Budha" (sic).

Bright Star looks like Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl to me.

Ameridroid first appeared in Captain America #218 and was created by Don Glut and Sal Buscema. Ameridroid was selected as one of "Captain America's Lamest Foes" by Mark Gruenwald in Captain America: The Legend.
