DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Thor #427

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: Excalibur comes to the US to find out what happened with the Juggernaut.

Comments: The cover is an homage to Uncanny X-Men #1. I kind of wonder what thing Beast and Nightcrawler swing on comes from.

Jackie Lukus wears a Flintstones shirt. The show Hercules was watching Thor #409. Eric thinks her brother is her boyfriend. I mean he thinks the guy he saw at the door who turns out to be her brother is her boyfriend. No Game of Thrones Cersei/Jaime stuff here, folks.

The mysterious figure from Thor #414, the one who was a burgeoning crime boss, is revealed to be Loki. The Enchantress holds her head like her first appearance in Journey into Mystery #103.

Thor refers to his battle with the Juggernaut as having an inconclusive resolution, which is kind of leaning on the fourth wall because many fans probably wrote in saying the same thing. Susan says Kevin belongs with Eric, not his ex-wife. You mean Kevin's mother, Susan?

One of the inspirations for Code Blue seems to be the comic Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandoes. The elite outfit of oddball characters of different ethnicities who each have a different specialty. This issue of them practicing dodging fire while crawling through the mud seems to be taken from Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandoes #1.

The Enchantress's mystical device to draw out the Wrecker nearly brings additional guest stars into this issue.

The Wrecker uses his crowbar to encase Thor in a glamour in which Excalibur sees him as the Juggernaut and they're not playing around.
