MC2 Dangler: May's Freelance Job for The Daily Bugle

Since May is around 15/16 in the Spider-Girl continuity that she's featured in, it would make sense for someone her age to get a part time job. Lucky for her, a job feel into her lap and then disappeared...

In Spider-Girl #4, a shadowy figure is shown to be the "chief", assuming the publisher or main editor of The Daily Bugle

It's revealed in Spider-Girl #12 that the publisher of The Daily Bugle is still J. Jonah Jameson, who usually seems to be wearing a tracksuit unless some other occasion calls for more formal attire.

In Spider-Girl #22, when Jameson attends a dedication of a gym in his name at the high school dance that his grandson Jack and Jack's date, May Parker, are attending, a fight between Funny Face and Darkdevil spills over into the gym where dance is being held. Jameson's first thought is that a photographer should be getting pictures and thinks that Peter's daughter might be interested and initially broaches the topic with her.

In the following issue, Jameson has Jack bring May down to the Bugle, so he can formally make the job offer.

May accepts the job offer in issue #24 (it's flattering when people believe in you!) and Jameson immediately assigns her to take pictures at a movie set starring Daniel Rand's protégé, Spike Yi. May is then disabused of whatever photographic natural talent Jameson may think she has. May looks for Peter for photography tips, but he is out and if she sought him out later is not shown.

In issue #25, May is still annoyed at herself for not succeeding at the job JJ's grandfather offered her. When she shows the pictures to Jameson, he tries to be polite and thinks that they can find her a different job at the newspaper. Before he give her a paper route or have her put coupon books in the Sunday edition, they are interrupted by Raptor who tells them that they have kidnapped JJ and for Jameson to get the word to Spider-Girl.

In issue #30, May is down at The Daily Bugle to get information out of reporter Ms. Moore, implying that she is still welcome down there and that Jameson might still be trying to find the right job for her. The elder Jameson is also there, but has a meeting with Tony Stark and doesn't meet with May.

May's job is brought up for the final time in Spider-Girl #32 when Peter tells Phil Urich that since May has lost her powers, he doesn't want her to do anything that would encourage her to want to be a superhero including a job at The Daily Bugle. He tells Phil that he's going to ask Jameson to fire her (can you fire a freelancer?). However, when he meets with Jameson, they are interrupted by the new Spider-Man who has just made his debut.

From then on, May's job at The Daily Bugle is never brought up again. Every time she or Jameson wanted to discuss it, they were interrupted by some colorful figure and they were busy. If they both just let it go, it was a good face saving measure for them, because Jameson would have had to give her a pity job which might have had a set schedule and May wasn't likely to have the flexibility in addition to school, homework, basketball and being Spider-Girl. After her relationship with JJ ended, she probably wasn't eager to work for his grandfather anymore.

After this, Jameson was largely dropped from the book as a recurring character, he wouldn't show up again until Spider-Girl #68-69 and that would be the last time. The Daily Bugle made other appearances and Jameson was still show editorializing in Last Planet Standing #2.

I think Mary Jane should have had May work at The Spider Shoppe. She couldn't be any worse than Staci Smythe.

Is this a dangler or was it wrapped up? I think of it as an MC2 Dangler.
