Spider-Girl Annual '99
Writer: Tom DeFalco, Bill Rosemann, Larry Hama
Pencillers: Pat Olliffe, Ron Frenz, Paul Ryan, Ron Lim
Synopsis: Spider-Girl's parents are killed by the Green Goblin. Not a hoax or imaginary story, so probably a dream. Plus, this is an annual chock full of extras like the annuals of the 1960s.
Comments: Spider-Girl dreams about doing poorly in school. I finished high school 18 years ago and I still have nightmares about homework.
I wonder if Leonard Groote is based on Leonardo DiCaprio? Former child actor on a sitcom who made it as a film star and had a reputation as a pretty boy.
Are those scars or tattoos on Misery's face and belly?
The long awaited origin of Darkdevil did not come in the next few months. Readers had to wait another year.
You can see JJ (The Buzz) in the Buzz's preview long before his identity was revealed.
There are the first few page previews for Fantastic Five #1 and Wild Thing #1.
There's a cool featurette that compares Spider-Girl's and Spider-Man's powers and it gives you an idea of Spider-Girl's power set.
Some cool pin-ups are in the issue as well. I wish I had the Spider-Girl solo pin-up as a poster.
A featurette with May's diary catches those up on the first 12 issues of Spider-Girl. Text is by Bill Rosemann who worked for Marvel's marketing department at the time.
Finally, check out May's bear feet!
