Amazing Spider-Girl #15

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciller: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: On a special anniversary, Spider-Girl deals with the machinations of the Hobgoblin and Mindworm.

Comments: May already celebrated her 16th birthday in Spider-Girl #66. So the team had to come up with a different way of celebrating her anniversary in-universe. It's the day she was returned to them after having been kidnapped. I would have done the day she first became Spider-Girl, but okay. As of this writing (December 2021), it's been 23 years since Spider-Girl debuted and I've been there since day one.

It's heartwarming how many heroes answer Spider-Girl's call for help when she's trying to locate Benjy's doctor that Hobgoblin and Mindworm kidnapped.

Role call. This is going to be the last appearance of a lot of Spider-Girl's supporting cast and for many of them, this is their only appearance in Amazing Spider-Girl. Say farewell to Sandra Healy, Kristy Watson, Meagyn Brady, Felicity Hardy and Chris Jarkoer. Normie and Brenda return from their honeymoon, which has been over a year in our time.

Future Benjy in Spider-Girl's dream looks like Peter.

Mindworm's manipulations give Tom and Ron a chance to use a lot of one time villains or those who haven't been seen in awhile.

Spider-Girl breaking her shackles from a watery trap is reminiscent of Spider-Girl #56.  It's also reminded of how Peter recently broke his bonds in Amazing Spider-Girl #11.

All the super heroes showing up to rescue Spider-Girl reminded me of another milestone issue, Spider-Girl #25 where Spider-Girl brought a bunch of super heroes to defeat the rest of the Savage Six (or was it Seven?) and rescue Courtney and JJ. In this case, Hobgoblin and Mindworm cut and run unlike Funny Face and Crazy Eight who surrendered.

Another mysterious figure in the shadows! In DeFalco's books, they should start their own club.
