DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Amazing Spider-Man #252

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: Spider-Man returns from the Secret Wars with a new costume.

Comments: Of course the cover is an homage to Amazing Fantasy #15.

The article about Mockingbird on Hawkeye's disappearance is by Jacob Conover who wrote the article "The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man" in Amazing Spider-Man #248, which was written by Roger Stern and penciled by Ron Frenz.

Spider-Man and Doctor Connors returns are shown in both this issue and Marvel Team-Up #141.

Black Cat mentions she got her powers from the Kingpin of Crime. I first became familiar with the Black Cat from the Spider-Man (1994) animated series where she was tested on by the Kingpin using the serum that gave Captain American his abilities. She could switch back from blonde to silver hair as part of her disguise.

Peter Parker likes anchovies, but the Scorpion does not as revealed in Amazing Spider-Man #319. I can take them or leave them.

Peter destroys his photos from Secret Wars to preserve the mystery of what happened to the audience. The first issue was coming out when returned. Whatever you do, don't destroy any original artwork from Secret Wars #8, where Spider-Man got his black costume, because that sold for over $3 million.

I guess the costume slithering around like that doesn't set off any alarm bells or spider-sense for Peter. We found out later Venom didn't trigger his spider-sense.
