DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Amazing Spider-Man #260

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: The Hobgoblin goes after Harry Osborn.

Comments: May being angry with Peter is becoming tiresome.

I think in a Jets/Steelers game, Tom DeFalco would bet on the Jets and Ron Frenz would bet on the Steelers.

The symbiote trying to possess Franklin is not followed up by DeFalco/Frenz or John Byrne, who was the writer/penciler on Fantastic Four at the time. The idea was explored years later in a miniseries that took place around that time called Spider-Man/Fantastic Four in issue #2. Sue is referring to their home in Belle Porte, Connecticut where she and Reed adopted secret identities for awhile in the hopes of giving Franklin a normal childhood.

Harry is talking to Donald Menken who has only made ten appearances in the main continuity, but has appeared in two Roger Stern/Ron Frenz miniseries, Spider-Man: Hobgoblin Lives and Spider-Man: Revenge of the Green Goblin. In the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon, Menken was voiced by series creator Greg Weisman. Menken was created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr. and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #239.

I had to get a close-up because I thought Betty was smoking a cigarette instead of having a pen in her mouth. I'm going in order of publication, so the review of Amazing Spider-Man Annual #18 will come later.

I wonder if that toilet was flushed?

Peter hopes the stress of the Hobgoblin won't drive Harry insane again. He doesn't have to worry about the Hobgoblin. J.M. DeMatteis maybe...
