DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Amazing Spider-Man Annual #18

Plot: Tom DeFalco
Writer: Stan Lee
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: The Scorpion crashes J. Jonah Jameson's wedding in the hopes of getting revenge on him again.

Comments: The opening sequence of the bank robbery by helicopter and Spider-Man webbing the helicopter between two buildings (here, he only does it to slow its descent to the ground) reminds me of the original trailer for the Spider-Man (2002) movie where he webs some bank robbers' helicopter between the Twin Towers.

Spider-Man planting one on Jameson by dipping him back reminds me of Hawkeye doing to Deathbird in Avengers #189.

Scorpion in the asylum and being able to escape whenever he wants reminds me of the Joker.

The Scorpion having a blaster on his tail was added in Marvel Team-Up #106, which was written by Tom DeFalco and drawn by Herb Trimpe.  They probably shouldn't keep his suit in the same facility. This IS Arkham Asylum. Previous appearances in Amazing Spider-Man #29 and the aforementioned Marvel Team-Up #106, they let the Scorpion wear his suit because they thought it would help with his therapy.

The Scorpion offers Jameson a Sophie's Choice by trying to make him choose between his son and his fiancée. Jameson offers himself and doesn't make a sadistic choice.

Well, despite having killed several people in this issue, the Scorpion is returned to the asylum for his rehabilitation. He IS Joker.
