DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Amazing Spider-Man #280

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz, Brett Breeding

Synopsis: Spider-Man and Silver Sable team up against the Sinister Syndicate.

Comments: Sha Shan walks out of Flash's life. She turns up again in Amazing Spider-Man #622, written by one of my favorite creators Greg Weisman.

Kingsley knows the Hobgoblin's identity. As Tom said he was writing it, Kingsley was the Rose and the Hobgoblin was Richard Fisk. As Roger Stern originally intended and later revealed, the meek Kingsley here is Daniel Kingsley, Roderick's brother (Tom & Ron say twin brother, Roger says just look-alike brother) and Roderick Kingsley is the Hobgoblin. It makes sense that Mary Jane recognizes the unrevealed Hobgoblin if it was Roderick Kingsley. How would she know who Richard Fisk is?

Spider-Man calls the Middle Eastern guy, "Luckless of Arabia." You will do better, Tom and Ron.

Ron said in an interview that Jim Owsley requested a new design for the Rhino to make it more armored and this what he came up with. Ron did remark how Amazing Spider-Man 2 did use the metal exoskeleton in the movie for the Rhino.

Sandman already has an alias, Flint Marko. I guess Sylvester Mann was the best he could come up with?
