DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Amazing Spider-Man #258

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: Spider-Man learns the truth of his new costume.

Comments: Nice going, Black Cat!

We get some foreshadowing on Mary Jane's origin next issue when we see the picture of her sister and nephews.

The costume is tearing him apart.

That famous iconic shot where Spider-Man finds out his suit is alive. Gee, the way it crawled around didn't tip you off?

I think this is where we first find out that the symbiote is vulnerable to sound and fire.

As Bloodsport said to Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad, "Tighty-whities? Really?"  The Torch fixes Spidey up and this actually isn't the first time Spider-Man has worn a bag over his head. He first did that in Amazing Spider-Man #82.

Although he has to stop some crime, Spider-Man makes it home in the old Fantastic Four suit with a bag over his head and a "kick me" sign on his back. He also seems dismayed when it snows. I looked up why. The Casket of the Ancient Winters was shattered in Thor #349.
