DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Comic Magazine #9

Writer: Erik Larsen, Eric Stephenson, Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz, Frank Fosco, Bill Wray, Paul Ryan

Synopsis: The Fantastic Four team up with Captain Marvel to stop Doom's incursion into the Negative Zone while the Baxter Building is invaded by old foes.

Comments: Johnny muses that Doom is looming like a giant on a comic book cover and wonders if the Prognosticator should be taken literally. On many covers of the Fantastic Four, Doom would be portrayed as this giant who was looming over the Fantastic Four, but they were not literal interpretations of the story. John Byrne commented on this in Comics Creators on Fantastic Four and had Doom literally be a giant in Fantastic Four #236. Doom does become giant sized in the issue #11 of this series and he appears as a giant on the cover of the final issue.

The Fantastic Four should recognize Rick. They met him in Fantastic Four #12, they helped save him in Fantastic Four #26 and he attended their engagement party in Fantastic Four #36.

That's some good artwork.

I don't like that artwork.

That's some good artwork, except for the Wizard's face.
