DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Superman Beyond #0

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: An older Superman still carries on the good fight.

Comments: Superman wrecking the tank is an homage from Action Comics #1.

Old Jimmy Olsen still has the same fashion sense. Clark still maintains an identity.

I like this page featuring Batman. Although I get annoyed how the comics say "Neo-Gotham" when they never said that in Batman Beyond. Why would the city change its name in 40 years?

A mutated supervillain. That happened a lot in Batman Beyond with Blight, Big Time, Inque and Earth Mover.

I'm getting Akira vibes from this guy and he only succeeds in scaring his daughter.

Superman comes in and takes the guy into space to cure him, despite getting stabbed. They make it back to Earth and Superman ends up being okay. I like how Barda points out that she's probably older than due to her being a New God.

It's revealed Lois has passed away, but Bruce is by Clark's side to console him. If the comic follows DCAU continuity, Bruce fell in love with Lois in the Superman episode "World's Finest" and their prior romance was given shoutout in the Batman Beyond episode, "Out of the Past."
