DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Thor #456
Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz
Penciler: Ron Frenz
Synopsis: Bloodaxe battles Dr. Strange, Earth Force and Code: Blue while Eric contemplates his next move.
Comments: The last issue was drawn by M.C. Wyman, so we didn't get to see Loki's defeat. His spirit was placed in the Thor bag and taken to Mephisto's realm. Odin is back in his own body.
When I first saw Bloodaxe, I thought bloodaxe was the Red Skull.
The flashback of Thor being transformed into Don Blake for the first time seems to be taken from Thor #159.
Majowski seems to have recovered from his van being smashed by Ulik while he was driving. Stone calls him an "old walrus" which was Nick Fury's nickname for Dum Dum Dugan in Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandoes.
Although they've appeared in back up stories, Earth Force has not appeared in the main Thor title since issue #400, when they were last drawn by Ron Frenz. It's been almost five years.
Magniconte and Corbin were characters in the New Universe title by DeFalco and Frenz, Kickers Inc. They evidently have 616 counterparts.
Although, they assume Bloodaxe is male, Rigger brings up that Bloodaxe could be female. We don't know Bloodaxe's preferred pronouns.
