DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Thunderstrike #21

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: Loki inadvertently nearly creates a new team of heroes.

Comments: The cover, of course, is an homage to Avengers #1.

The opening page is similar to Avengers #1, henceforth referred to as the original story. Seth has recreated Loki's body.

Loki uses an illusion on She-Hulk like he did with Hulk in the original story in order to get them to attack Thunderstrike and Thor, respectively.

There's a subtle hint on who Jackie is and how she wants to help him.

In this issue, She-Hulk's rampage is picked up at Fantastic Four Headquarters by Ant-Man and War Machine. In the original story, Loki took steps for the Fantastic Four not to receive the message about the Hulk first. There isn't a footnote, but Loki manipulated War Machine into fighting Thor in Thor #484.

Seeing how he may have created another super team, Loki flees. The legacy heroes debate it, but end up deciding not to form a team.

Eric reconciles fully with Jackie and after witnessing their romantic evening, Stellaris decides to leave Earth.

In the epilogue to the back up story, Eric reveals to Kevin that he's Thunderstrike, which Kevin is overjoyed to learn. I guess he's no longer angry at Thunderstrike anymore? He was mad enough at him to throw his Thor hammer away in Thunderstrike #10.
