DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Thunderstrike #10

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: Thunderstrike does battle with a Thor imposter who is wearing the Eric Masterson Thor costume.

Comments: Another cover homage to Thor #126. I'm not putting it up again.

Hercules is now clean shaven. He used to bust Thor's chops for being clean shaven.

This page is a swipe from the opening page of Avengers #74. That also dealt with someone impersonating an Avenger, the Black Panther in that case. Thunderstrike has his hand on Giant-Man's (Hank Pym) knee the way Yellowjacket (Hank Pym) had his hand on Goliath's (Clint Barton) knee.

The cabbie makes a topical reference to Whitewater and Bill Clinton ("Bubba"). Whitewater was about controversy surrounding real estate investments made by the Clintons prior to taking office.

Kevin is still angry at Thunderstrike for threatening Bobby that he throws his old Thor toy hammer in the garbage. This hammer was empowered by Thor to be able to call him for help like Jimmy Olsen's signal watch.

Thunderstrike dresses up in Thor's old armor and defeats the imposter. I wonder where the imposter got his technology from? His ruse didn't seem very convincing to me. It reminds of all the old Superman cartoon from 1942, "Showdown" where Superman's imposter didn't seem very convincing to me either.

Thor drops by and reconnects with Eric. Eric can't resist taking a dig at Thor's new costume.
