DeFalco/Frenz Retrospective: Thunderstrike #4

Writer: Tom DeFalco
Penciler: Ron Frenz

Synopsis: Thunderstrike and Spider-Man team up against a health club full of monsters.

Comments: I like the cover in how it seems to comment on the overexposure of Venom at the time.

Um, do I have to do this? I wasn't a big fan of this story arc, since it was basically a backdoor pilot to the Blackwulf series that involves a hidden war among Deviants. It kind of reminds me of Supernatural: Bloodlines.

Captain America is feeling exhausted after his workout with Thunderstrike. His body breaking down due to the Super Soldier Serum and he eventually ends up in Iron Man-like armor. He does manage to do some of that leverage to throw Thunderstrike into the wall.

Thunderstrike nearly colliding with Spider-Man reminds me of Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 where Thor did the same, but didn't even notice. Spider-Man took it in stride when he was younger, but he's older and grouchier now.

Bones are revealed to be the problem with the hot tubs clogging as mentioned in last issue. I hate that the victim says he's a nineties kind of guy. Let's get out of the 90s!

Pandara meets Mary Jane who is thinking of joining Marcy's health club and Pandara invites her to soak in a hot tub. Peter arrives and senses danger and breaks in on the least kinky scene of two women involved in a hot tub. He and Thunderstrike battle Pandara's monsters and Blackwulf is mentioned.
